Oktoberfest Obliteration II

Remember: Registration for Oktoberfest Obliteration III opens at 12:00pm today, August 26!

——————————–

For our 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Obliteration competition, in a larger facility on a larger property, and with more event experience, we decided to more than double the size of the competition.  We increased the size of the Standard and Scaled Individual divisions as well as the Team division, and we added Masters and Super Masters divisions.  Result: a fantastic 240+ strong athlete CrossFit competition with participants from Texas and 2 other states!

——————————–

We boasted that Oktoberfest Obliteration II would be one of the best affiliate level CrossFit competitions of the year.

I’m sure opinions vary, but we couldn’t be happier with how the event turned out and the feedback we’ve received.  It’s hard to know where to begin on describing the event.  It took months of planning, hundreds of hours and dozens of volunteers’ time and energy.  We (Pam and I) certainly didn’t do it alone, so first and foremost, we would like to thank everyone that helped us pull it off.

Our Lieutenants:

Matt L. and Lindsay L.

With an ever increasing ability to preemptively guess what we need next, Matt and Lindsay have become a crucial part of the overall strategic and detailed planning of the events we run, especially this one.

The Volunteers:

It’s impossible to thank these folks enough.  Everyone pitched in and did whatever was needed, but some flat-out blew us away with the amount of help they provided.  It just baffles us that you all gave so much of yourselves on this day.  Thank you so much.

Lesley, Ivy, Lisa, Misty, Lindsay, JoAnn, Carol, Sheila, Doris, Mike, Regan, Ruth, BJ, Kelly, Mark, Steve, Lilly, Shelby, Lauren, Shannan, Tracy, Patti, Anne, Bobby, Danielle, Lisa, Liz, Nancy, Gretchen, Dan.

The Judges:

Judging at a CrossFit event is not easy.  It is mentally, physically and even emotionally challenging.  If you’ve done it, you know what I mean.  If you haven’t done it, you should (athletes – judging at an event will make you an even better competitor, I promise!).  Overall, we are thrilled with all the judges performances.

Jaime, Matthew, Carrie, Paulina, Krista, Chelsea, Amy Jo, Diana, Michael, Laurie, Jerry, Vanessa, Katy, Rick, Mat, Jason, Shawn, John, Holly, Jerry, Justin, Yadia, Mary, Jonathan, Darlene, Tami, Mike, Liz, Allison, Sarah.

Vendors and Sponsors:

Let’s be honest, vendors and sponsors add a really fun element to an event like this.  Added prizes and great booths at the event make it really fun all day long.

Troy Barbell, KettlebellKing.com/Midwest Fitness Solutions, Fleet Feet (Houston), Lululemon, Sports Authority, Integrated Supplements, Yonder Way Farm, City Brew Coffee, CrossFit Cypress, Progenex, Paths In Healing, Muscle Milk, ProCare Chiropractic & Sport Therapy.

And, a special thanks to Monika Brown for DJ’ing the event and Kara Carter for singing the National Anthem.

The Athletes:

Der Beste vom am besten. As this year’s slogan implies we were hoping the best of the best would show up for Oktoberfest Obliteration II.  We weren’t disappointed!  This is ultimately what it’s all about.  Showcasing the efforts of those that live CrossFit.  It was truly inspiring watching each and every athlete and/or team compete and some were just absolutely amazing!  Each and every one of you should be proud of what you accomplished.

Here is the recap from that first event, held on October 10, 2009.

On October 10, 2009, CrossFit Champions held it’s first local competition, Oktoberfest Obliteration.

What a fantastic event the 1st Annual Oktoberfest Obliteration turned out to be!

78 male and female competitors across 4 divisions as well as 9 3-person co-ed teams came out and gave everything they had in some very tough WODs.

Individual Competition Results:

For the Individual competitors, placing in the top of WOD #1 qualified them to compete in WOD #2.  The athletes’ placing in WOD #2 determined their placing for the day.

2nd place – Michael Crofford
3rd place – Carl Edwards

Standard Women

3rd place – Carlos Ibarra, Lisa Ibarra, Tony He
